Feb 3, 2010 Included below is a list of African American/Black History Month activities in the Stuttgart Community for February 2010, hosted by U.S. Africa Command, U.S. European Command, and Stuttgart Garrison.
    Black History Month Itinerary by Week
First Week: February 1-6 (AFRICOM Hosted)
Feb. 1 - AFN Broadcast by Garrison Cdr
Feb. 5 - AFRICOM Kick Off hosted by General Ward (1530 at Kelly Club)
- Soul Food Cook Off - Part 1 (Kelley Club); Prizes for best main dish, best side dish, and best dessert.
- Essay and presentation (Deadline Feb. 22); Details provided below.
Feb. 6 - Free Screening of The Wiz (1300 at Patch Center)

Second Week: February 8 - 12 (Garrison Hosted)
Feb. 8 - Ron Archer speaks at the Patch High School (0945)
Feb. 9 - Ron Archer speaker at Prayer Breakfast (0700 at Swabian)

Third Week of Events: February 15-20 (EUCOM Hosted)
Feb. 15 - Soul Food Cook Off - Part 2 (Panzer)
Feb. 16 - Reading Session on Kelley
Feb. 18 - Reading Session on Patch
Feb. 20 - Screening of the Frog Princess (Patch Theater at 1600)

Fourth Week: February 22-26 (Culminating Events)
Feb. 22 - Patch High School Essay Contest Culminates
Feb. 23 - Essay Winner Announced
Feb. 26 - Planned Keynote Speaker - Distinguished Congresswomen from DC to speak at both Kelley and Patch
-Essay Winner Presents Winning Essay
-Overall Cook-off Winner Announced
-Symbolic Unity Walk – Simultaneously at all locations (Patch, Panzer, Kelly, RB, -Molesworth, Camp Lemonnier) (start time is 1630 CET

Details:
  • Open to all Stuttgart Area high school dependants
  • One or two typed page(s)
  • Include the writer's name, age, grade level, telephone number, and email address
  • No limit to submissions/can work in groups
  • Deadline: Feb. 22, 2010
Selected papers will be read aloud at the culminating event of the Black History Month celebration. Certificates from U.S. Africa Command and possible monetary prizes will be awarded.
