Whitney Baird, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for West Africa and Security Affairs in the Bureau of African Affairs, participated in discussions about the Sahel region of Africa, in Stuttgart, Germany Oct. 8, 2019. U.S. Ambassadors to Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, a representative from the Office of Security Cooperation in Chad, U.S. Africa Command leadership and Foreign Liaison Officers from Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom also participated in the talks which were aimed at creating a shared vision of the way forward among the Sahel countries.
