U.S. Africa Command's J5 Directorate crafts the Strategy, Plans, and Programs for the Department of Defense’s efforts in Africa. Our team is comprised of dedicated, customer-focused individuals who provide services and products to help ensure a more stable and secure African environment in support of U.S. foreign policy.
The Strategy, Plans and Programs (J5) Directorate contributes to the achievement of the Commander’s directed end states by developing command strategic guidance, planning military campaigns and operations, and conducting security cooperation activities within the United States Africa Command area of responsibility, in order to deter and defeat transnational threats and to provide a security environment conducive to good governance and development.
J5 is dedicated to translating our mission into this vision: 1) A safe and secure Africa is in the best interest of African nations and the United States of America. 2) African nations are best served by helping themselves meet their goals 3) AFRICOM J5 works with our partner nations to fulfill their own objectives and security interests
