WARD SENDS: Giving Thanks for our Families and Friends

Thanksgiving is the special time to celebrate the many blessings in our lives. It is typically spent with loved ones, carrying on old family traditions and creating new ones.

Appropriately, this year's Thanksgiving falls during Military Family Appreciation Week, in recognition of the contributions and sacrifices made by our military families. It reminds us how every day, our spouses and children demonstrate the courage, devotion, and commitment that make our nation so strong. Families--including those of military members, civilians, and contractors-- play a key role in U.S. Africa Command's mission. They are sources of strength and support and are our greatest blessings.

As we gather with friends and families, please remember the many military and civilian men and women who, while serving their country, are separated from their loved ones. For those of you away from home, I hope that you find support and comfort by sharing this day with those around you.

People are our greatest asset and top priority of U.S. Africa Command. Joyce and I are grateful for each and every one of you and your families who bring so much diversity, talent, and dedication to our organization.

Happy Thanksgiving!

General William "Kip" Ward

Commander, U.S. Africa Command
