U.S. Navy sailors refurbished a local rehabilitation center in Victoria, Seychelles, as part of a two-day community relations project on May 19-20, 2008.

The Seychelles Rehabilitation Center offers disabled residents a variety of programs and services to improve their functional abilities and quality of life. The sailors conducted projects to improve the center and donated a variety of equipment.

"This is the only facility of its kind on the island, which supports over 78,000 people," said Master Gunnery Sergeant Christopher Hill, Community Relations project coordinator. "Some of the things we're doing are overhauling the facilities pool, as well sanding and refinishing floors."

"I really like this island and all of the people here," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Carlos Castillo. "They really need this equipment and it's nice to know we're making a difference."

Sailors enjoy the opportunity to interact with members of the community and provide them with better opportunities. "When I leave here today I'm going to leave with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude knowing I helped make the Seychelles a better place for its citizens," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Charles Davis.
