More than 100 seventh graders from Robinson Barracks Middle School were presented with academic improvement awards by Major General Michael Snodgrass, U.S. Africa Command Chief of Staff, on April 21, 2009.

The awards are part of a U.S. Africa Command Improvement Performance Program recognizing Stuttgart area middle school students, children of U.S. Africa Command and U.S. European Command employees, who improve at least one letter grade in any given subject or improve their overall grade point average.

“The reason we have this program is to help students achieve success in their education,” said Snodgrass.

“It doesn’t mean students aren’t successful if they’re not on the honor roll,” Snodgrass continued, as he shared two important components of success: "showing up on time and working hard."

During the assembly, Robinson Middle School principal, Dr. Shirley Sheck, emphasized the value of a good education. “Please continue to do your best every single day,” Sheck said.

Third quarter awards will be presented to 6th grade students at Robinson Barracks on April 23 and to 8th grade students on April 29. Improvement awards will be given to Boeblingen Middle School students as well.

U.S. Africa Command will continue to recognize Stuttgart area middle school students each quarter for their hard work and dedication.
