KAMPALA, Uganda - U.S. children living in Kampala, Uganda presented a banner to General William E. Ward, commander of U.S. Africa Command, during his visit to Uganda for a military training exercise in October 2009.

The children handmade the sign with drawings and words of appreciation to thank U.S. Africa Command service members and honour them on Veteran’s Day.

“Thank you very much," said Ward. "I will proudly display this banner in my command headquarters.”

The children were members of the U.S. Patriot’s Club - a faith based group of American Expatriate children living in Kampala. It meets once a month to learn about American government and history to help the children stay connected to American culture.

“The goal of the U.S. Patriot’s Club is to encourage our young people to become responsible citizens of the United States,” said Leicia Golembeski, Patriot’s Club senior troop leader.
