Dear members and friends,

Please join us on Saturday, July 24th, for our next tour in Stuttgart. We will be using the historic cable car from Stuttgart-Heslach up to Degerloch to visit the Waldfriedhof, the biggest cemetery in Stuttgart. It was started in 1913 and many well-known artists, politicians and entrepreneurs found their final resting place there. We will also visit WW I and II memorials that have been created in honor of the military and civilian victims of both wars.

The historic cable car was started in 1929 not as a tourist attraction but to accommodate guests attending funerals and people who want to visit the gravesites of their loved ones or just take a walk up there as a means of transportation. Folklore has it that the cable car was and is still today also called the "widow express" or "legacy hunter express," some black Swabian humour on the side...

Date/Time: Saturday July 24, 2010 at 1400
Meeting Place: at the bottom station of the cable car. (please see sketch on page 2)
How to get there: Take public transport U1 to Vaihingen or U14 to Heslach (coming from downtown) and exit at station "Südheimer Platz". Cross the street and walk a few meters; you will see signs pointing to the cable car "Seilbahn". DO NOT COME BY CAR, there is very limited parking in this area. The ticket for the U1 or U14 can be used for the ride with the cable car.

Tour starts at 14:20; we will all be in one cable car with our tour guide who will explain historic and current facts about this means of transportation. He will also guide us through the cemetery and show us the above-mentioned sites. The Tour ends around 16:30.

Afterwards we will have dinner at the Swabian Weinstube "Zur Traube", one station down from Südheimer Platz (7-10 Min. walk). Our dinner will consist of Flädlesuppe followed by a Winzerteller (small portion Rostbraten, Maultasche, Spaetzle and potato salad) for 17,10 €. Vegetarian dish: Käsespätzle with roasted onions and a small salad for 8,90 €. Dessert and drinks are extra. Please state your choice of dinner with the reservation.
