The events of September 11th, 2001 forever changed the course of our nation. While the tragic loss of life of Americans and citizens from 70 other countries is etched in our collective memory, there were many heroes who stepped forward and took action to prevent further tragedy and care for the survivors. Since then, the U.S. has engaged with our partners around the world to strive for peace and stability, with the ultimate goal of preventing another attack on our homeland.

What has emerged is the growth of partnerships built on shared values of peace and security around the globe. On this September 11th , we honor our teammates everywhere who work hard every day to secure our homeland and protect the American people, and the important contributions of military and civilian peacekeepers of many nations, including those from Africa, who are deployed worldwide to provide security under difficult conditions.

To the service members, civilians, and family members of the U.S. Africa Command, I thank you for what you do every day to contribute to a safe and secure American homeland and a stable Africa.
