General Officer Announcement: <br /> <br />Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Army Gen. Carter F. Ham for re-appointment to the grade of general and assignment as commander, U.S. Africa Command.

General Officer Announcement:

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Army Gen. Carter F. Ham for re-appointment to the grade of general and assignment as commander, U.S. Africa Command. Ham is currently serving as the commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.

In continuing a relationship of more than 200 years, the visit allowed the command an opportunity to engage Tunisian partners for discussions and demonstrations on how U.S.-Tunisia defense engagements have advanced Tunisia’s military operational and capacity and contributions to regional security.
