Guinea's Interim President, General Sekouba Konate, and American General William Ward, commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM,) exchanged views and discussed matters of mutual interest during a Digital Video Conference (DVC) which took place at the U.S. Embassy on Wednesday, September 29, 2010.

Through the use of satellite communications, the 20 minute DVC allowed Konate in Conakry and Ward at AFRICOM headquarters in Germany to discuss events happening in Guinea.

Ward applauded Konate for the strong leadership he has provided his country in difficult times, and praised the Guinean military for its neutral stance during the ongoing electoral process and its pledge to support the newly elected democratic government. Ward noted that fair and transparent democratic elections in Guinea will open the door for participation in bilateral and multilateral military programs to further professionalize, modernize, and train Guinean defense and security forces.
