U.S., Niger troops observe, learn from Niger basic training

Sgt. 1st Class Sean Carey shows a Nigerien Armed Forces (FAN) Instructor what he knows about the assembly and disassembly of the AK-47, the primary individual weapon for the units of the Nigerien Army. Other weapon systems the recruits learn about are the HKG3 and the PKM machine gun. Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, of the 1st Brigade Combat Team "Bastogne", 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), spent four weeks observing and mentoring basic combat training cadre of the FAN. The Bastogne Brigade is the regionally allocated force supporting U.S. Army Africa events and exercises across the African continent this year. (U.S. Army Africa photo by Staff Sgt.
