AFRICOM commander visit to Tanzania highlights security cooperation

U.S. Army General Stephen Townsend, commander, U.S. Africa Command, conducted a two-day visit to Tanzania, July 27-28, where he met with senior defense officials and opened the first joint special forces training exercise between the two nations since 2017.

Led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), JA26 integrates approximately 1,500 personnel from Djibouti, Kenya, Tanzania, the United States and several other nations to build readiness, deepen partnerships and strengthen regional security.
