TAKORADI, Ghana -- Cody Thompson, a U.S. Navy operations specialist seaman, plays football (called "soccer" in the United States) with local children in Takoradi, Ghana, on December 27, 2007. Thompson and fellow U.S. military volunteers with the Navy's Africa Partnership Station spent the day painting at the Essikado hospital next to the soccer field before taking time to play with the local children. Africa Partnership Station is a multi-national effort to bring the latest training and techniques to maritime professionals in nine West African countries, to address common threats of illegal fishing, smuggling, and human trafficking. In addition to maritime training, APS is performing humanitarian projects in the region.
