Regions
In Central and Southern Africa we are focused on building partner capacity so that our African partners are capable of interdicting illicit activity, including piracy, that poses a clear threat to regional instability, to international partners, or resources dedicated for violent extremism.
In East Africa our efforts are focused on establishing security with Somalia. We do this in close coordination with the international community by concentrating U.S. military efforts on the development of select Somali National Security Forces (SNSF) units and defense institutions. We also support Africa Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) troop contributing countries as they transition their responsibilities to SNSF units throughout Somalia.
In North Africa our primary focus is on ensuring our African partners are capable of containing instability originating in Libya. We aim to accomplish this by building regional capacities from countries across the Sahel Maghreb to enable the region to counter threats emanating from Libya.
