U.S. airstrikes support GNA in Libya

U.S. Africa Command Aug 03, 2016

At the request of, and in coordination with, the Libyan Government of National Accord, U.S. Africa Command conducted precision air strikes against Daesh targets in Sirte, Libya. As a result, the following targets were struck by U.S. forces:

Aug.1:

one T-72 tank
two military support vehicles
an enemy fighting position
one T-55 tank
two pieces of heavy engineering equipment

Aug. 2:

one rocket launcher
one piece of heavy engineering equipment (excavator)
one pickup truck with mounted recoilless rifle

Aug. 3

one pickup truck with mounted recoilless rifle

These air strikes bring the total number of air strikes in support of Operation Odyssey Lightning from Aug. 1 to Aug. 3 to nine.

The U.S. stands with the international community in supporting the GNA as it strives to restore stability and security to Libya.

These actions, and those we have taken previously, will help deny Daesh a safe haven in Libya from which it could attack the United States and our allies.

In the latest quarterly civilian casualty assessment report period ending Dec. 31, 2023, U.S. Africa Command received two (2) new reports of civilian casualties which were found to be unsubstantiated. There were no open reports carried over from previous quarters. As of the end of this reporting period, there are no open reports.
