U.S. airstrikes in support of GNA: Sept. 30 to Oct. 2

At the request of, and in coordination with, the Libyan Government of National Accord, U.S. Africa Command conducted precision air strikes against Daesh targets in Sirte, Libya. As a result, the following target was struck by U.S. forces:

Sept. 30:

  1. One Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device
  2. Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device facility
  3. Seven enemy fighting positions

Oct. 1:

  1. Six enemy fighting positions

Oct. 2:

  1. Command and control facility
  2. Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device facility
  3. One enemy fighting position
  4. One enemy fighting position
  5. Four enemy fighting positions
  6. Nine enemy fighting positions
  7. Two enemy fighting positions
  8. 15 enemy fighting positions
  9. 10 enemy fighting positions
  10. One enemy fighting position
  11. Six enemy fighting positions and one supply location
  12. Three enemy fighting positions
  13. Three enemy fighting positions
  14. Two enemy fighting positions
  15. Six enemy fighting positions
  16. Four enemy fighting positions
  17. Two enemy fighting positions
  18. Two enemy fighting positions
  19. Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device facility
  20. Daesh operations facility

This airstrike brings the total number of airstrikes in support of Operation Odyssey Lightning, which began Aug. 1, to 201.

The U.S. stands with the international community in supporting the GNA as it strives to restore stability and security to Libya.

These actions, and those we have taken previously, will help deny Daesh a safe haven in Libya from which it could attack the United States and our allies.

U.S. Africa Command strike updates will be posted Monday through Friday and are contingent on activities conducted.
