U.S. Forces Conduct Strikes Targeting al Shabaab

In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command conducted airstrikes targeting al Shabaab on Sept. 9, 2025.

In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command conducted airstrikes targeting al Shabaab on Sept. 9, 2025.

The airstrikes occurred in the Shabelle Region of Somalia.

AFRICOM, alongside the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, continues to take action to degrade al Shabaab's ability to threaten the U.S. homeland, our forces, and our citizens abroad.

Specific details about units and assets will not be released to ensure continued operations security.

From August 4-6, 2025, DTRA's International Counterproliferation Program (ICP), in partnership with the EU CBRN CoE and UNICRI, hosted the AFRICA SHIELD 2025 Regional Counterproliferation Workshop in Rabat, Morocco. This inaugural workshop brought together nearly 100 participants from across the African continent, representing law enforcement, military, policy, and UNSCR-1540 national-level coordination.
