Officers of the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service completed a five-week Joint Combined Exchange Training alongside a team of U.S. Army Special Forces on July 8 in Lagos, Nigeria. The JCET is part of a close and continuous military partnership between the U.S. and Nigeria spanning decades to strengthen defense ties and promote regional security.

Stephen Townsend, commander, U.S. Africa Command, wrapped up a three-day West African visit Feb. 22-25 with a stop in Nigeria yesterday to meet with the nation’s leaders and further the long-standing partnership and security cooperation between the two nations. As part of the visit, Townsend participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Nigeria Military National Cemetery to honor those who have given their lives in the service of their nation. During the visit, the delegation expressed their condolences for the seven service members killed in the crash of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in Abuja earlier this week.

Students, instructors and dignitaries following completion of the Intermediate Intelligence Course, comprised of nearly 20 West African female intelligence officers, non-commissioned officers, and civilians at the Nigerian Defense Intelligence College, near Abuja, Nigeria, Dec. 20. The ceremony recognized those service members from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Mali, and Senegal having completed the course with the goal of creating a cadre of intelligence professionals using a common framework and terminology to enable multinational coordination in shared missions.
