Command Senior Enlisted Leader

Command Sergeant Major Garric M. Banfield was raised in Boynton Beach, Florida.  He entered the United States Army in June 1992. He completed One Station Unit Training and was awarded the military occupational specialty of 19D, Cavalry Scout in Fort Knox, Kentucky. 

Command Sergeant Major served as a Driver and Dismounted Scout in 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and 4th Squadron, 7th US Cavalry; Rifleman and Machine Gunner in 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry Regiment; Instructor in 5th Squadron, 15th Cavalry Regiment; and Squad Leader, Bradley Commander, Section Sergeant, Master Gunner and Platoon Sergeant in 1st Squadron, 1st US Cavalry Regiment.

He served as Team Sergeant and First Sergeant in 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne); Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Combined Arms Center-Special Operations Forces Cell; Battalion Command Sergeant Major, 81st Civil Affairs Battalion; Brigade Command Sergeant Major, Task Force Sinai; Action Officer at United States Army Special Operations Command; and Brigade Command Sergeant Major of 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Special Operations) (Airborne).

He was the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan, United States Forces-Afghanistan (Forward), Over-the Horizon Counterterrorism Platform, Special Operations Command Africa, and the Joint Special Operations University.

He has deployed on several contingency and combat operations to include Operation DESERT FALCON, Operation JOINT ENDEAVOR, Operation JOINT GUARD, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation NEW DAWN, the Multinational Force and Observer mission, and Operation FREEDOM SENTINEL.

His military education includes the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Nominative Leader Course, Summit Course, Red Team Leader Course, Ranger School, Sapper Leader Course, Jumpmaster Course, Bradley Master Gunner Course, and the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape–High Risk course.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland University College, a Master of Science in Defense Analysis/Irregular Warfare from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Graduate Certificate in African Studies from the National Intelligence University.

His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. He also holds the Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Sapper Tab, and multiple foreign jump and marksmanship awards.
